Capsule, Gummy, Drops or Chew? Choosing a Calm Supplement by Its Label

Updated October 14, 2026 · By the Quellmoor team · 6 min read

Calm supplements now come in four main formats, and the format decides a lot: how much sugar you swallow, how precisely you know the dose, and whether you will still be taking it in a month.

We make the capsule in this comparison. We have still tried to say plainly when one of the other three would suit you better.

Before the table

Five Questions Worth Asking in the Shop

  1. Q1.What does one day’s serving cost?

Divide the price by the number of days it lasts. Bottle prices hide very different serving sizes.

    Tidefall: $1.07 to $1.27 a day.

  2. Q2.Is there sugar or a sweetener in it?

Gummies and chews need something to make them pleasant. That adds up over a month of nightly use.

Tidefall: None. Capsules don’t need sweetening.

  3. Q3.Would you still be using it in a month?

Most calm ingredients are studied over weeks. A format you dread, or forget, won’t get that far.

Tidefall: Three capsules with dinner, tied to a meal you already eat.

  4. Q4.Can you see each ingredient’s amount and its purpose?

A ratio, a range or a single blend total makes it impossible to compare with anything else.

Tidefall: Five lines, five amounts, five stated reasons.

  5. Q5.Who checked the finished product?

Research is usually on single ingredients. A batch test tells you what is in the jar you actually buy.

Tidefall: Each batch goes to an outside lab; made in a GMP-registered facility.

Who Each One Is Really For

We make this one

Quellmoor Tidefall

Five ingredients across three capsules, taken with your evening meal, for the hours between work and bed.†

In its favor

  • The only option here with five separately listed ingredients
  • No sugar and no sweetener
  • Ashwagandha at 600 mg, inside the 300 to 600 mg range a 2022 research review linked with lower stress scores
  • Refund on the first bottle even after opening

Against it

  • Costs the most per day. Corrowick Theanine Chews is under half the price if L-theanine alone is what you want.
  • Three capsules to swallow. No chewing, no taste, but more than one pill.
  • Shorter refund than the chews. Thirty days against their sixty.
  1. Ashwagandha root extract600 mg

Backs a normal cortisol rhythm† · Stress-hormone timing · The heaviest line on the label, standardized to 2.5% withanolides.

  2. Lemon balm leaf extract500 mg

For the evening comedown† · The after-work hum · A garden herb from the mint family, long used after dark.

  3. Passionflower herb extract300 mg

For thoughts on repeat† · Looping thoughts · Leaves and stems of a climbing vine.

  4. Magnesium taurate100 mg

Eases tight muscles† · Held tension · Magnesium paired with taurine; a modest amount by design.

  5. L-theanine100 mg

Steadier focus† · A busy head · An amino acid from tea leaves, kept small here.

Brackenhue Unwind Gummies

Two berry gummies with lemon balm 100 mg, L-theanine 50 mg and chamomile 25 mg; 4 g sugar per serving.

Good if you struggle with pills and like your supplements to feel like a treat.

Watch out for the sugar on a nightly basis, and refunds that only cover unopened tubs.

Pleasant and simple, lighter on every ingredient.

Ostlowe Evening Drops

A dropperful of valerian, hops and lemon balm in a glycerin base, labelled as a 1:4 extract without per-herb amounts.

Good if you like a warm drink before bed and don’t mind the taste of valerian.

Watch out for the label: a ratio tells you how it was made, not how much of each herb you get. No refund is stated.

A traditional bedtime option, hard to compare on dose.

Corrowick Theanine Chews

One chewable tablet with 200 mg L-theanine, sweetened with xylitol.

Good if you only want L-theanine and want to keep the cost down.

Watch out for xylitol is toxic to dogs, so keep the tub out of reach of pets.

The cheapest and simplest, and only one ingredient.

“I checked every milligram against what I already take before I started. Easy, because it’s all printed.”
Ruthie B.
“No mystery blend, no big promises. That’s what got me to try it.”
Oona F.
“I used to own five half-finished tubs of things. Now it’s one jar.”

Questions About Formats

Why not just buy an L-theanine chew?
If L-theanine is all you want, that is a sensible, cheaper choice. Tidefall exists for people who want several ingredients in one evening routine.
Are gummies worse than capsules?
Not worse, different. They are easier to take and usually lighter on doses, and they almost always carry sugar or a sweetener.
Do tinctures contain alcohol?
Some do and some use glycerin instead. The label should say which; if it doesn’t, ask the maker.
Can I combine Tidefall with a gummy or drops?
Several of these share ingredients, such as lemon balm and L-theanine, so you could double up. Show both labels to a pharmacist first.
Why does Tidefall cost more per day?
Five ingredients at higher amounts cost more to make than one or three at lower amounts. The table puts the numbers side by side.
